Bonnie Hill will replace Gracie Cochrane in the second season of the HBO Harry Potter TV show. Cochrane, who plays Ginny Weasley in season one, an eight-episode adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, dropped out of the production earlier this year.
Although Ginny only features in a blink-in-you’ll-miss-it scene at King’s Cross station in the first Harry Potter book, Cochrane filmed scenes and was spotted in behind-the-scenes set photography at the station. It’s unknown how Ginny’s role will be expanded (if at all) in the first season, however she’s notably absent from a (not-in-the-novel) promotional shot showing the Weasley family at the Burrow. (Arthur Weasley is also absent, having just recently been cast.)
Bonnie Hill made her film debut in The Six Triple Eight (2024) and fittingly plays a character called Ginny in Girl Troop Vs Aliens (2026). The role of Ginny was originated by Bonnie Wright, who played the youngest Weasley sibling in all eight Harry Potter films.
Season one of the Harry Potter TV series begins airing on Christmas Day. Season two is now in production.
