Daniel Radcliffe and director David Yates will participate in a live screening of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on December 12. Fans who purchase the Blu-ray edition of Half-Blood Prince will be able to participate in the “Live Community Screening” at 12:00 PM PST (3:00 PM EST) on December 12.
Fans will be able to, “watch the movie together with Daniel Radcliffe and director David Yates and hear an interactive Q&A where fans can ask questions about the blockbuster film directly to Daniel and David, directly from their home”.
David Yates says of the event:
“It’s a tremendous honor to be invited to host the first worldwide Live Community Screening and to have the opportunity to talk directly to fans across the globe. I’m looking forward to engaging with the thoughts and opinions of the fans who have supported us so loyally and passionately over the years – without them the films wouldn’t be the success they are.”

The film isn’t even out in theaters yet, but that’s not stopping anything. DVD Times is reporting that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be out on DVD and Blu-ray on December 7. Of course, this is more than five months away and is therefore prone to change, especially until an official press release comes our way. The article itself even says, “As always with news like this, the dates that follow are subject to change (and almost certainly will the further we get into the future) but should give you an idea of what’s on the horizon…” Read more here.

An interesting piece over at the LA Times ponders whether a recent trend in declining DVD sales will have a negative effect on the success of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. According to a home video industry analyst, “There’s been a fairly substantial shrinkage in the overall DVD market since the last ‘Harry Potter’ film came out”.
The article also notes that while the Potter films have sold well on DVD, each successive film has sold less than its predecessor. Warner Bros. President Alan Horne however was optimistic about the success of the Potter franchise.
Horn said he didn’t expect the soft DVD market to hamper sales of “Half-Blood Prince” because it was a “unique property.” Although Horn took a lot of flak from “Potter” fans when the studio pushed back the release of “Half-Blood Prince” to July from last November, the move may help boost DVD sales because the DVD will be released during the heavy gift-buying holiday season.
If the article is correct, we should see Half-Blood Prince on DVD and Blu-ray before the end of the year.

The Harry Potter DVDs will be re-released in standard and Blu-ray formats in the United Kingdom on June 15.
Additionally, Warner Bros. has launched a contest in which a token will be hidden in one of the disks for a fan to find. The winner will be given the opportunity to spend a week at the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows set working in various production departments.
